The Ear Training Lab

You will be shown three green dots representing finger positions for a chord on a piano. Dots higher up sit on black keys; dots lower sit on white keys. Horizontal spacing reflects the real distance between keys.

In this beginner version, all shapes come from the key of C Major — every note is a white key, so all three dots will always be at the same height. There are only 3 shapes to learn, one for each inversion type.

Select the Quality (Major / Minor) and Inversion (Root / 1st / 2nd) that match the shape — multiple answers may apply! Use Hear Chord to listen and Show Piano for a reference keyboard.
